farm experiences
Hillhouse Farm Escapes has lots of activities and experiences available to guests and to those attending events on our farm. Enjoy farm walks, cycle routes and tennis, or get stuck into country sports including shooting, archery and tomakawk throwing. You can also observe the comings and goings of farming life – particularly interesting at lambing time!

fun on the farm
If you’re staying at Hillhouse Farm Escapes, you’ll find lots to do without getting in your car. We have a range of experiences which are exclusive to our guests. Watch the comings and goings of the farm, particularly at lambing time. Play tennis to your heart’s content. Book a country sports activity. And, of course, walk or cycle on our excellent farm tracks.

lambing time
If you’re staying at Hillhouse in the second half of April and the early weeks of May, you will get a close-up view of a sheep farm at lambing time! Here at Hillhouse, we have about 2,000 ewes to lamb, plus another 1,000 at nearby Fala Mains. All of our sheep lamb outdoors in our fields, with just a very small number coming inside if needed for warmth or extra checks. We are happy for you to walk quiety through the lambing fields, though please don’t bring dogs through if at all possible.

tennis
Our tennis court was resurfaced to Lawn Tennis Association standard in 2021. It’s available for guest use so please do bring your racket! You can play as much as you like, subject to the court also being used by other guests and our own family. We have an easy booking system in place though mostly you’ll find it’s available.
The tennis court is close to the farmhouse, with a fantastic view across Lauderdale. You can see the Eildon Hills easily on a clear day.
Please ask us about tennis coaches for children if required.

country sports
Hillhouse is very fortunate to have a fantastic sporting tenant in Scottish Borders Sporting. We can arrange for you to try out clay pigeon shooting (standard clays and simulated clays), archery and tomahawk throwing.
Tracy and Stuart Ferguson are fabulous teachers, and we can arrange a bespoke package of activity for you or your group.
Scottish Borders Sporting runs sporting events at Hillhouse over the course of the year including simulated game days, driven game days and gun dog training.

walking & cycling
There are farm tracks right across our 1500 acre farm, providing an excellent mix of flat routes in the valleys and hill routes. Bring your walking boots, wellies or mountain bike and just “go”, right from your door.
We provide farm maps so you can navigate easily around the farm.
